Chichester Cathedral

Rose and I took a drive to Chichester this afternoon, and spent a couple of hours wandering around the Cathedral there. The stained glass window shown in this picture was absolutely breathtaking. One little section, bottom right, showed Abraham preparing to sacrifice Isaac to the Lord, as instructed, and the hand of an angel holding back his hand. It made me think about the twin strands of obedience and grace that characterise dynamic faith in God.

Elsewhere in the cathedral is a modern stain glass window by the renowned Israeli artist Mark Chagall. We first saw his work in 1999 in the synagogue in the Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem.

Chagall once said famously: "We all know that a good person can be a bad artist. But no one will ever be a genuine artist unless he is a great human being and thus also a good one." There is a good website here that displays some great photographs of Chagall's work.

Our visit there ended with delicious hot chocolate in the Cathedral shop.
