See you later, Cantley

Sadly, I note the passing of a gentleman of the church, Cantley George. My kids (I supect many others too, used to call him Father Christmas when he came to Zimbabwe on one of Don & Glenda Bell's Work & Witness teams. The last time I met Cantley was in Oklahoma about ten years ago. Rose and I had been fishing on Lake Texoma with Don and Glenda, we had piles of striper bass to have a fish fry with, and Cantley & Syble came over to say hello and eat fish with us. Hey Cantley, give a hug to two another Christian gentlemen (my dad and Rose's dad) for me.

Nazarene Communications Network posted this story:

Work & Witness veteran Lloyd Cantley George died on June 8 after a long battle with cancer. He was 81. According to Mission Corps Coordinator David Cooper, George touched countless lives through his participation in 98 Work & Witness trips, which included destinations such as Mexico, Central and South America, Haiti, and Zimbabwe. George had a goal of participating in 100 trips, but cancer prevented him from reaching that goal.

George was born in Mercedes, Texas in 1924. He served in the U.S. Army Hospital Corps during World War II and was a medical technician in the European theatre. Following his discharge he moved to Oklahoma where he met and married the love of his life, Syble Wooldridge. The two were married in 1952. George graduated from Bethany Peniel College (now Southern Nazarene University) in 1958 and worked in the Oklahoma Police Department in the Youth Division. He and Syble later lived in American Samoa, where he worked as a school principal. Before retiring, he worked for the Department of Human Services as a rehabilitation counselor in Oklahoma.
Cooper stated that George will be remembered for his passion for Work & Witness and his spirit of giving.

Cantley's wife, Syble, sons David Lloyd and Steven Thomas, and three grandchildren survive him. Funeral services were held at Bethany First Church of the Nazarene. Donations may be made to the Cantley George Medical Clinic in Tuxtla, Mexico in care of Bethany First Nazarene Church, 6789 N.W. 39th Expressway, Bethany, OK 73008. --Mission Corps, NCN News

And, if you get a moment, shake my old man's hand as well!

Rest well, friend.
