Our youngest,
Ashleigh, spent this weekend in Durban. The 21st birthday celebrations for her best friend Gail. We booked her on a South African Airways flight for Thursday morning, but by Tuesday we realised the
industrial action that had kept SAA mostly grounded for 5 days by then would probably continue aother couple of days, so we made another e-ticket booking with
1Time, a fairly new airline here. I love the e-ticket concept ... book and pay on via internet, pitch up at the checkin counter, produce ID and booking reference, and get a boarding pass.
Why SAA still makes you book online, stand in one line to get an old fashioned ticket before having to queue in another line to check your bags in, is beyond my comprehension though? Mind you, the way they handled the public (gee, we only pay the fares that keep them going) was pretty apalling. They have a lot of damage control to do with their public image I think. Here's a picture of 1Time's bright red and yellow livery, which sure makes an impression on the apron and passing by overhead. Pity about the aged fleet that all new startup airlines seem to have to begin with - but good luck to them as they take on the other players SAA, Kulula, Nationwide and British Airways.
