Our youngest daughter, Ashleigh, starts her working career today! Full-time employment that is since she has waitressed part-time for more than two years whilst in College. But 150 applications later, mostly with 'Affirmative Action' replies, registering with every online job placement service in South Africa, just a single interview was the result. But what a result! She was offered a job last Friday, starting today, with a small business running a little stable of three craft-related magazines. She will intern with the smallest magazine, a quarterly craft publication for children. So she was up at 5am today, preparing and preaning and just a little bit nervous - before leaving at 6.15am to join the early morning northward trek from the western suburbs of Johannesburg to the north - her N1 commute baptism if you will! Like most big cities, if you want to avoid the big-time traffic hassles, you leave home very early, complete with coffee for the car, and your favourite drive time radio to keep you company. I got up early to just be there for her, say a quick prayer, and just sort watch as yet another 'passage' in growing up a family happens before my very eyes.
