MAD Magazine Nostalgia

This is the cover of the very first MAD magazine I bought, in April 1971. We were on holiday in Durban, I was 14. Hmmm - MAD humour has affected my life ever since! Maybe even my theology sometimes! Check out the price.

It was during the Watergate Crisis, and not long before Richard M Nixon's demise as President of those there United States ... and at age 14 I thought the satire was pretty funny. The sign has recently been rediscovered and available for hanging on the gate at State House in Harare, where it would probably last 17 seconds before becoming part of someone's shack in Mbare.

The MAD Magazine Explorer is an interesting site to visit for some Alfred E Neuman type nostalgia from mispent teenage days. Another great site is Doug Gilford's MAD Cover Site.

Watergate included the involvement of Charles Colson, who a few years later became a Christian, and later founded Prison Fellowship. Rose and I had the honour of meeting Chuck Colson in 1993 in Colorado Springs, at a Focus on the Family event.
