Transmitter hut at Ndengu

Local workers near the TX hut

Lightening, fire damage, theft of cable, were all factors in a decision to relocate the transmitter hut from the base of the hill to very close to the tower on the hill. All the bricks for the hut were locally made and purchased, and interesting that bricks for the entire job cost less than two bags of cement, a very expensive commodity in Malawi. Decisions still have to be made about how to get about 300 meters of power and audio cable room the TX hut to the studio - underground (hard job, lots of rock and stone) or overhead (stealable). We are still aiming for the station to be on-air before the end of September 2008.
