The Queen's English

Just Vocabulary is a great little podcast that just came my way. Designed for ESL (English as a Second Language) learners, each short show defines, describes, and demonstrates 2 reasonably obtuse words. But do not let ESL deter you - because most people I know could do with improving their grasp of English as she is spoke!

Reminds me of a story my friend Robb tells about the time he briefly worked for Vodaphone at a call centre. Irked by his Zimbabwean accent, a woman once asked him,"don' you know the Queen's English?" To which he responded, "Of course she is madam". There's no real reply to that is there? His call centre career was short-lived.

Ja, the job may have been shortlived, but for different reasons. They had decided to relocate the entire company to Liverpool and unless we were all prepared to move to Liverpool, the job became the ex. I left within a few days of the initial announcement and went to work for the insurance company, where, on my second day, I had 13 foot the fall the rendered me disabled... Mebbe I should have moved to Liverpool.

Take care.
